Kauten to Play for the Battle Creek Bombers of the Northwoods Colleigate League

April 12, 2010

PAIR OF COUGARS SIGN WITH BOMBERS

Street and Kauten Will Suit Up for Local Nine

BATTLE CREEK, Mich., - The Battle Creek Bombers are pleased to announce the additions of Spring Arbor University teammates Shane Street and Brett Kauten to their 2010 team roster.

The pair of Cougars, set to join the Bombers this season, are both freshman for the nationally renowned NAIA baseball power. “We are excited to bring in talented student athletes like Shane and Brett to compete for us,” said Rick Lindau, Bombers General Manager. “Both of these young men hail from Michigan, play collegiate ball just up the road at Spring Arbor, and should hopefully make the transition easily to the competitive Northwoods League.”

Street is an accomplished catcher entering his first collegiate season with the Cougars. The 6’0” 190 pound native of Rockford, MI was All-Conference, All-District and All-Region in his senior season for Rockford High School. He was also honored as the team’s most valuable player and received a gold glove award for his work behind the plate.

"Shane is blessed with a very strong right arm and great hands to enable him to be a premier receiver for his mound corp,” said Stan Eldridge, Bombers skipper and an assistant coach with the Cougars. “With a great knowledge and understanding of the game, Shane will serve as another coach on the field as he handles and leads the defense. We also expect that Shane will be an important part of the offense throughout the summer.”

Kauten comes to the Bombers by way of Spring Arbor and Utica Eisenhower High School in Shelby Township, MI. At 5’11” and 190 pounds, the freshman infielder was an All-State performer in 2009 and participated in the prestigious MHSAA East-West All-Star Game at Comerica Park last summer.

"Adding a bat like Brett's will greatly enhance our offense this summer,” said Eldridge. “With the ability to power the ball to the gaps and as well as Brett runs, he will create excitement for Bombers fans and be an important member of the team. Brett will also work in the middle of the defense to support a strong Bombers pitching staff."

Street and Kauten join fellow Cougars alumni Andy Paulun and Cody Sharp as members of the Bombers. Paulun and Sharp both pitched for Battle Creek during the 2008 season.

The Battle Creek Bombers begin their fourth season of play on June 2, 2010. For schedule information, or to reserve your season tickets, call (269) 962-0735 or e-mail to info@battlecreekbombers.com.

14u America's Junior World Series

March 22, 2010

The All American Bowl and PlayStation Present the America's Junior World Series 14U July 26th through 31st.

Represent Michigan along with 38 other states in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The chance to showcase your talent against the country’s best.

No other current tournament seeks to identify each state’s top individual players and assemble them on one team. While national tournaments recognize towns and their teams, our players will play for state pride, determining once-and-for-all, which state possesses baseball’s top talent. All the while, players will establish themselves not just as one of their town’s, but as one of their state’s best.

Ever-conscious of the financial restrictions facing parents and teams today, we realize that the opportunity to travel for tournaments is not available to all families. All current opportunities for 14U players to shine on a national stage come with substantial financial commitments. The tryout fee is the only participation-related cost incurred with our tournament. Should you be selected to your state’s team, your travel to, and accommodations in Las Vegas for America’s Junior World Series will be provided.

Joe Neal will act as the Michigan Regional Director for this event. We are searching for the top 2-4 players on each 14u team to compete in a one day tryout June 22nd at Bishop Foley High School in Madison Heights at 9:00am. Directors of the tournament will be on hand to personally pick the team. Roster size is going to range from 16 to 18 players.

Only cost to be incurred $99.

For out of town players a Hotel is now being setup for a discount rate. As information becomes available it will be posted.

To be nominated please email name, address, phone number and email to Joe Neal at joeneal4@yahoo.com
